The use of this online app is a trial conducted by Mid and South Essex NHS trust in association with Gnovatech Pvt Ltd. In this trial, titled ‘Use of algorithm based online app to triage breast patients with new symptoms to specialist clinic’, we are evaluating the use of this online application to screen patients with new breast symptoms to appropriate specialist clinic without the need to get face to face appointment with the GP if possible. In this way, patients with serious symptoms can be referred to the specialist breast clinic appropriately and succinctly.

Mr Ahsan Rao (consultant breast oncoplastic and reconstructive surgeon at Mid and South Essex) conceptualised the study. The web-based software was created by Gnovatech Pvt Ltd UK. The app will ask you some simple questions about your new breast symptoms and provide you with outcome to suggest review by GP or specialist breast clinic or specialist nurse clinic. The outcome will also be emailed to your GP surgery so they can view it, assess you in person or refer you to specialist care. Please make sure you input the correct email address provided by the GP surgery and do not hesitate to contact your GP surgery if you do not hear from them in a week of submitting your information online. This way, if you have symptoms that can be dealt in the community or by specialist nurse, you will be seen promptly by them. Equally, if your symptoms need further assessment by the breast surgeon and scan of the breast, you will be directly referred to them by your GP once they you have submitted your medical information to them. This will save you time to get appointment from the GP to see them face to face and then being referred to the breast surgeon.
If you identify any problem with using the app or submitting your information to the app, please contact your GP immediately and get to see them. If you have complex history and would like to see your GP, please contact them. Similarly, if you have not heard from your GP a week after submitting your information, please contact your GP surgery again as they may have not received the email generated by the online app.
